Project Description
The Netivot-Goral railway route, extending over 30.2 km, connects, as the name suggests, the town of Netivot to Goral Junction. Until this project, Israeli Railways had only issued tenders for segments up to 10-km long.
This new segment is part of the Ashkelon-Be’er Sheva line duplication project, which also included the construction of 10 bridges, a road bridge over Road 40, 8 farm-vehicle passages, and 34 culverts. The length of the railway track between Ashkelon and Be’er Sheva, which was declared a national project, is about 60 km. Besides Netivot, it also includes new train stations in Sderot and Ofakim.
Construction method – the first of its kind
The new railway track was designed for trains driving 160 km/h, and its construction therefore necessitated eliminating curves and realigning them from small to big radiuses.
This Design & Build project is the first of its kind in railway infrastructure, characterized by laying infrastructure for 4 grade separations and 7 railway bridges. It included excavations and filling work at a scope of over one million cubic meters, as well as insulation, realignment and retaining walls work at a scope of over 20 cubic meters.
