Ashtrom International, through its subsidiary Ashtrom BV, is proud to report on the construction of the Mama Shelter Hotel in Belgrade, the Serbian capital. The hotel was built atop the Rajiceva mall as part of a retail center located in the heart of Belgrade's Old, on its main pedestrian street.
Project Information
The project is of a 4-star hotel built over 5 floors above the Rajiceva shopping mall. The hotel has an area of 7,911 square meters, with the terrace being 500 sq.m. The hotel is managed by the Mama Shelter hotel chain of the Accor group. It contains 125 rooms and suites and elevators that are shared with the mall.
The hotel also contains conference halls, conference rooms in varying sizes, all equipped with audio and video and furnished in the style of the Mama Shelter chain. The rooms, public areas, restaurant and terrace are designed in a "classic loud" fashion to the order of the Mama Shelter hotel chain.
The construction process and challenges
The hotel is part of a commercial complex that sits atop the shopping mall's building. In the first phase, the construction of the shell structure and envelope was carried out for both the mall and the hotel.
The finishing works and installation of the systems of the hotel were done for the most part when the mall was fully operating, which created quite a challenge to prevent disruption to the operation of the shops and businesses there.
Beyond the execution of the finishing works and the electro-mechanical systems, Ashtrom International was responsible for fully equipping the hotel and the restaurant, including supplying furniture, bedding, towels, cooking equipment and kitchen utensils, carpets and many design accessories from all over the world – in fact, everything that was required for the full operation of the hotel.
The project was carried out at a record three months of planning – from the concept to detailed design for execution. The execution took six months, including procurement and supply of accessories and equipment from all over the word.
The hotel was carefully designed as was its routine maintenance. Throughout the project, the project management saw to repair all the deficiencies that were discovered from the beginning to the end.
