Ashtrom Renewable Energy, together with Rapac Renewable Energy and Kibbutz Kalia (the "Development Partnership"), is advancing a project for the establishment of a solar power facility of 11.5 megawatt of power, combined with a storage capacity of approximately 55 MWh. The facility, in the Kalia area in the northern Dead Sea, will not only produce green and clean electricity – its output will help reduce the load on the transmission network. This will be possible with the energy storage facility, which will collect power during the day and discharge it to the electric grid in the evening, when the grid is available.

This combined facility is expected to be integrated into the Market Model regulation, in which the electricity market will be improved and independent power producers can directly enter into contract with virtual suppliers in agreements for the sale of electricity in a bilateral transaction of Purchase Price Allocation (PPA).

Project Information

In the establishment of the project, the Development Partnership will enter into a long-term agreement with an electricity supplier that will undertake to purchase the entire production capacity of the facility that will be stored in the batteries.

A significant transmission problem exists in the transmission grid. For this reason, in the first years of the project's operation, the battery is expected to discharge into the grid only in the evening. In these hours, the transmission grid is relatively available, which enables the System Administrator to inject power that was produced in the early morning during the hours of the night in which no power generation from solar facilities is possible.

Project Components

The project area is about 100 dunams (25 acres) in the Kalia area.

In the expected financial closing, the commercial terms will be agreed with the electricity supplier in the PPA agreement, and with the project's execution contractor, as part of the set of agreements with the lender who provides the construction loan.
