Ashtrom Contracting through its subsidiary Ashtrom Engineering and Construction announces with pride the end of construction of the courthouse in Bat Yam, Israel. Alongside the rigorous safety measures, the courthouse's construction was conducted at a high professional standard throughout the phases of the project, including after its completion, with the smooth transfer of the building's management to Ashtrom Contracting.
Project Description
The project, of 20,700 sq.m. in area, consists of one building that accommodates the Magistrate's Court, the Traffic Court and the District Labor Court.
The courthouse is an 11-story building, including the top floor, which is used for electro-mechanical facilities, and three levels of underground parking (with a 160-vehicle capacity), plus an Israel Prison Service wing with four detention rooms and technical facilities. The ground floor is the courthouse's lobby, with a public reception area and a cafeteria. The upper seven floors contain 56 courtrooms.
Also in the building are six elevators, three of which for the public, two for court personnel in a secure area, and one elevator for detainees. In addition, the building has a control and command center for security, climate control and fire control.
The building was built to standards of accessibility for disabled persons and is technologically cutting edge. It was built of materials that are environmentally friendly and an emphasis was placed on energy efficiency.
Planning and construction
Ashtrom Group took on the Bat Yam Courthouse project as a Private Finance Initiative (P.P.P), which includes planning, financing and construction. It will manage and maintain the building for 20 years.
The building's structural shell was erected using cranes of up to 62 meters in height and 12-ton lifting capacity. Following the shell's construction and sealing, the concrete columns, interior walls and ceilings were added with great care, following strict safety protocols, extensive tests and fault repairs throughout the construction period.
