Project Description

Alfa Tower comprises 32 floors, 18 of which are residential floors with 120 residential units – starting from 1- and 2-bedroom apartments up to mini-penthouses and penthouses on the upper floors – as well as 14 hotel floors with 180 rooms. The tower also includes commercial spaces, a public-use building, hotel areas, and a 4-level underground parking lot.

The Alfa Tower design includes the use of white concrete and white aluminum girders, with large areas of windows. The unusual design, such as the curving walls, necessitated using special, suitable products. For example, one type of window was adjusted to the curving wall, while in other places the transparent windows were connected to the doors using a profile that bridges the two elements harmoniously, with minimal use of aluminum. The project also included lift-and-slide balcony doors, glass banisters, and partitions between balconies.

The basis of the construction process

One of the project’s most distinct characteristics was mono-strand unbonded post tensioning. This method is mostly used for prestressed ceilings, storage tanks and smaller beams, where the tendons are arranged in a moment layout over the supports and affixed to end anchorages on both sides.

Strands in unbonded post tensioning are distributed all over the ceiling area, except for girder areas or strands with a higher density. In this method each strand is stressed individually, which is the source of the name mono-strand.
