Project Information

The project consists of building a concrete bridge 270 meters long spanning two river banks and an asphalt road 1,700 meters in length. The project was completed in 2015. Its value was about 13.6 billion Nigerian naira (about USD XXX million in 2015).

Construction stages

At the start of the project, round pipes of 50 cm in diameter were inserted through the river bed into which concrete piles were placed.

At a more advanced stage, more works were executed: placing concrete shafts, positioning concrete columns, and producing 63 concrete beams in an on-site plant with post-stressing, each of which weighed about 50 tons. The beams were lifted using two tower cranes atop a raft and were positioned on neoprene supports on top of head beams.

After completing the structure, the concrete slabs, also produced in the on-site plant, were placed on the span and the road on both sides of the bridge was paved.

Building the bridge required dredging sand by a dredger and moving it from where it was not required to where it was required.
