Completed
Ashtrom International, through its subsidiary Ashtrom BV, is proud to report on the project of building the Abua-Ndele Bridge and access road. The purpose of the project was to physically connect two villages, Abua and Ndele in Rivers State, Nigeria, in order to shorten the travel distance between the two communities.
Project Information
The project consists of building a concrete bridge 240 meters long spanning two river banks and an access road to it. The project, which is still ongoing, is on an area of 240 sq.m. The value of the project is about 6.25 Nigerian naira (about USD XXX million).
Construction stages
At the start of the project, square-profile prestressed concrete piles were inserted into the river bed. The piles were produced in an Ashtrom International BV plant in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. At a later stage, concrete shafts and columns were placed. Beams, weighing about 50 tons each, were cast and post-stressed on site at an on-site plant.
The beams were hoisted using two tower cranes and positioned on neoprene supports connected to head beams. After that, the concrete slabs of the roadway, also produced at the on-site plant, were placed. Finally, the paving of the road on both sides of the bridge was done.
Building the bridge required dredging sand by a dredger and moving it from where it was not required to where it was required.
